A pair of weekend storms is disrupting travel, as airlines cancelled additional flights scheduled for Saturday, bringing to nearly 800 the number of flights scrapped over a two-day period, with 7,000 more delayed.

Airlines had been proactively waiving change and cancellations fees due to the early spring weather.

Flight Cancellations, Delays

As of 9pm ET Saturday, carriers had cancelled 271 flights for the day, according to FlightAware; another 2,246 were listed as delayed.

That comes after 522 flights within, to, or from the United States were scrapped Friday; 4,713 additional flights were delayed.

On Friday, the weather caused the greatest impact among major airports at New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) airport, where 32% of all flights were delayed, and New Jersey’s Newark (EWR), where 37% of flights—more than one out of every three—were late.

Waivers for Weekend Storms

Delta Air Lines posted a weather advisory for a dozen airports in the Northeast, including Boston and New York, offering fee-free changes for travel that had been scheduled for April 1.

American Airlines posted a travel alert for 21 airports in the Northeast and in Canada, as well as another nine airports in Colorado, due to a Spring snowstorm set to hit the Rockies Saturday.

United Airlines has a similar weather waiver for 17 Northeastern and Canadian airports, along with nine in Colorado.

JetBlue’s fee waiver covers a dozen airports in the Northeast for travel both Friday and Saturday.

The Southwest Airlines travel advisory covers 10 airports, including Boston, Newark, LaGuardia, and Portland, for travel both days.
