WASHINGTON (TVR) – The White House is back open for tours after a more than six week pause following Pres. Trump’s election, just in time for the lottery to determine which children will get to take part in the 139th Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn.

Those interested in vying for a slot in the Easter event, though, must enter the lottery by noon Eastern Time on Saturday; children 13 and under are eligible.

The 2017 White House Egg Roll will be on Monday, April 17th—the day after Easter. Tickets are free and winners will be announced March 31.

The tradition began in 1878 under President Rutherford B. Hayes.

It is now the largest event of the year held at the 217 year-old Executive Mansion.

White House Tours Resume

President Trump greeted the first tour group to go through the White House since he took office when the public was allowed back in March 7. Much of the group was made up of fifth graders from Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Alabama, CBS News reported.

Vice President Pence took a photo with a tour on March 15.

White House tour tickets are free, but for U.S. citizens tickets must generally be requested from their representative or senator in Congress.

During the eight years of the Obama administration, about three million tourists walked through the White House doors.

The Secret Service drew criticism in 2013 when the agency took the initiative to cancel all White House tours, saying it needed to save $2 million.

President Obama asked the Service to reconsider, which it did.
