The Transportation Security Administration says it screened five percent more travelers during spring break than last year.

It also says it screened more than 44 million checked bags as part of spring break air travel this year.

“What’s even more impressive is that TSA completed the roll-out of enhanced screening procedures while screening nearly five percent more passengers than last year, thanks to our skilled and dedicated people,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a release.

The agency recently announced that enhanced screening procedures had been rolled out nationwide.

The TSA says it screens an average of 2.1 million passengers and crew each day. Due to spring break air travel, the agency says it screened an extra 19% of travelers each day from March 15 to April 15.

Ninety-five percent of passengers waited less than 20 minutes to go through an airport checkpoint, TSA said, while 93% of travelers enrolled in the Pre-check expedited screening program waited less than five minutes.
