(TVR) – Americans had plenty of company at the airport this summer.
The traditional peak of the annual travel season lived up to its name this year, with a record number of travelers passing through security checkpoints.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which conducts screening at most U.S. airports, says it set a screening record, checking 239 million passengers and crew members.

“It is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the TSA workforce as well as the increased traveler participation in TSA Pre✓® and Global Entry programs that we were able to effectively screen a record number of passengers in such an efficient manner this summer,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement this month.
A record 823 million Americans flew on U.S. airlines last year.
