WASHINGTON (TVR) – Americans are eyeing vacation spots on the western frontier, as AAA’s top 2018 summer travel destinations list reveals.
The survey found eight of the top 10 domestic destinations were west of the Mississippi River.
Orlando kept its spot on top, as the most sought-after spot for summer.
Hawaii claimed two spots, as did Alaska, as Americans remain fond of the last two states to join the Union.
Travelers chose Rome, Italy, as the top international destination.
And “millions” of people plan to take a trip this summer, AAA said.
“This is shaping up to be another banner season for travel as Americans look to get out and enjoy themselves in the summer sun,” Bill Sutherland at AAA Travel said in a release.
“Travelers are making plans now to visit theme parks, sail away on cruise vacations, relax at the beach and explore cities in the U.S. and across the globe.”
